Akagami no Shirayukihime OVA 1: Date in Clarines City
I watched the OVA of Akagami no Shirayukihime. It's a worthwhile
episode. Now in their romantic relationship, Shirayuki and Zen went on a date
this time. It seemed that it’s their first date out of the castle together.
They have been on many dates inside the palace.
This time, in a more or less, the first ever official date
of the pair outside the palace ground, which was in Clarines City, Shirayuki wore a tangerine dress with a
hat that honestly looked ridiculous to me. She looked like an old woman wearing the
old fashioned dress. On the other side, Zen wore a more peasantly looking
garb, discarding his distinctive princely suit. He looked a bit like Obi minus
the ragged look, of course. He's like
a very ordinary guy with the get-up somewhat resemblant of Robin Hood get-up.
I seriously think if Zen isn't a prince in the story, he will be a lot more of
bishounen rebel like Obi. A dashing rebel with the white blond hair.
Shirayuki was accompanied by Obi and Ryu while they
waited for Zen to arrive in the city circle where a fountain was built at the center. It sometimes felt funny
when Shirayuki feels so flustered waiting for Zen. They have a lot of shyness
to work out. This couple is more comfortable as friends than lovers.
But it's way better than Mitsuhide and Kiki. The two
obviously have feelings toward each other but are just so oblivious, which
makes them the cooler yet stiffer pair in the anime. I love Kiki's cool
astuteness. Mitsuhide is easily scared around her. He appears like a very lame
guy. Loses cool around Kiki but he's also another great male character in the
story.
Obi is the only one left without a partner in this
story. Although he was obviously attracted to Shirayuki, he's very aware that
Shirayuki and Zen are too much in love with each other, he won't be grabbing
attention. The funny thing about Obi is he can be very blunt and outspoken
about his thought, which makes him the funniest guy in the group. He always
knows how to lighten the atmosphere. His joking suggestion on Mitsuhide about
going on a date with Kiki met Mitsuhide with such baffling ideas. Mitsuhide
always feels nervous about advancing his relationship with Kiki, while Kiki can
cooly and coldly appear in the most appropriate time. What a trio these three
make!
So, while they are left in the castle, Zen and Shirayuki continued
on their date. Zen ate the apple pie Shirayuki made especially for him after
learning from Kiki that it is his favorite dessert. The pair entered a shop,
looking around at letter papers and pen when Zen inquired about Raji who was
also taking his morning snack in his very room right at that moment. Unlike Zen
who loves apples, Raji is easily reminded of Shirayuki at the very sight of
apples.
Zen and Shirayuki walked around the town more and
found another shop where Zen brought her a bracelet she was eyeing on while she
silently bought the scented paper that Zen had sniffed and liked. They went up
the tower harbor to enjoy the afternoon sunset and had their last romantic
moment there.
The episode ended with Zen appearing in the room where
Kiki, Mitsuhide and Obi were all standing and threw a gift wrapped box to each
of them, surprising the trio to receive a gift from Zen. Zen never gave
gifts before. The trio opened the box and found weird items. Kiki got a dog
brooch. Obi, an old wooden thing which Kiki suggested putting around his neck
like a necklace much to Obi's disapproval. Mitsuhide, ever loyal Mitsuhide
tried to find pleasure in getting the ink even saying it glowed in the dark.
